Determining the Benefits of Vehicle Tracking

Vehicle tracking devices offer your company more than six benefits to installing the system on your fleet.  We will be looking at just three of the top six benefits you can find when using vehicle tracking.  Keep in mind that your company may not find all of the benefits we discuss necessary, but chances are the one or two you find will be enough to make purchasing the system worthwhile.

The first in our list of benefits is lower fuel costs and knowing what driver to attribute misused fuel to.  Excessive idling is both a problem for the environment and your company.  The fumes the engine puts off will cause pollution.  With excess idling you know that your company is helping to damage the earth more.  So, one benefit to taking care of fuel issues is saving the environment.  The second is when you cut excess fuel use down you are saving more than a thousand pounds a year.  You spend thousands on fuel, and you do not want to over spend.  By finding the drivers who excessively idle you can correct the problem.  It may not be a case of idling too much for some drivers.

You might find that you can lower fuel costs simply by keeping track of the more efficient routes for drivers.  There are two benefits in planning better routes for your drivers.  The first is that the driver is on a more direct route which takes less fuel.  The second benefit is time.  The driver who takes the scenic route will spend more time driving and possibly arrive late at the customer’s home or location.  This actually leads to a third benefit of planning routes better.

Customer service is imperative.  You want to keep your customer happy.  Arriving late to the business or home of the customer will not win you points.  It also takes more time away from other customers.  Planning a better route is essential to a happy customer.

There is another benefit in the customer service category.  Any time you are improving customer service by knowing where your trucks and drivers are you are going to be more productive.  Communication is part of customer service.  You have to be able to report to your customers about your truck and driver.  If you cannot communicate with your driver then you may not know where they are. This is how the vehicle tracking system can help.

With GPS vehicle tracking devices the location, date, and time is offered through the monitoring system. You can map your entire fleet or narrow the map to one truck in order to get a fix on their location.  This allows you to tell the customer a more accurate time of arrival.  You also get the benefit of being in touch albeit silently with your driver.  You will know when the driver has an issue with their vehicle or traffic based on whether the truck is moving slowly or quickly.  You will also know when they reach the customer.
